Solar for Non-Profit Organizations
Solar for Non-Profits
One of the most underserved markets for solar across the United States are Non-Profit organizations (NPOs). There are countless NPOs in every state and these are the organizations who could really use savings the most so they can carry out their individual missions.
While the solar conversation for NPOs is no way as simple as for Homeowners and Business Owners, it has gotten easier over the years. It is now possible for us to reduce the total project cost by 15% for all eligible organizations. This means a $300,000 project would cost $255,000, a savings of $45,000.
The reason for this is due to the fact an NPO is tax exempt and loses out on the 30% Federal Tax Credit. To compensate for this we work with financing companies who can take the Federal Tax Credit from the project and provide the NPO a great reduction in cost to help them go solar.
Requirements for Discount
Unless the NPO is going to self fund the entire project, which is also an option, a NPO should require about 50kW or more of solar in order to be eligible for the 15% discount. An exception for this would be if there were several buildings we could combine into one project, for example a school or a municipality.
Types of Non-Profit Organizations
Types of Non-Profit Organizations covered can include faith based organizations and communities of faith, such as churches, synagogues and mosques, as well as other tax exempt organizations such as private/charter schools, transitional/supportive housing, HOAs, hospitals, arts & culture organizations, library’s, youth organizations, veterans organizations, animal shelters, food banks, municipalities, golf clubs, public pools, marinas, and other community service organizations or tax exempt associations.
