Sour on solar… a customer’s viewpoint
When customers express interest in going solar, we do our best to try and find a way to make a system work for them. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. EcoMen Solar is not interested in jamming a system down a customer’s throat using hard sales tactics or manipulation. That is EXACTLY the type of dynamic we fight AGAINST. This post is in response to several negative assertions one customer made as a response to our newsletter.
It turns out this was a customer we had tried to work with in 2011. They had come to us as a lead.
According to our notes, we had reviewed the property and determined that trees were definitely a problem for solar. Discussions ended there, and we never met or sent a representative.
Fast forward to the above email message from 8/9/2018.
Here we have yet another customer who has declared negative sentiment about solar, in all of the familiar ways:
- Solar is a scam
- Solar guys only want to cut down trees
- Solar companies steal from customers
Here are responses to each of those assertions:
Solar is a scam
Not even close to true. We have many happy customers who experience consistent savings. We do our very best to ensure our customers get the value they signed up for. I could go into the financials, in gory detail, but I don’t see what benefit this offers. Contact us if you want to see how much you can save. Just check our testimonials. Here are a couple poignant ones:
I loved working with EcoMen Solar! I shopped around for YEARS looking into getting solar. I had some arrogant people in and out of my home….I ask a lot of questions and not until Ecomen came into my home were all my questions answered….and then some!!! They explained everything and were excited to do so!! I’ve had my solar for a couple of years and this summer I had a bill in March and have not had one since, it’s July 20th….I have a growing credit with JCP&L…….oh and my bill in March was $34.26!!!! My home faces 1 degree off of due south and I do have a large roof line…..we run 2 zone heat/air conditioning, a pool and a hot tub!! The installation process was a pleasure as well….ALL of the workmen were pleasant to work with and they were very neat and respectful of my property! They are very courteous, I am very comfortable with them in my home. High quality work. It has been a pleasure working with them.
This company installed a solar panel system on our roof in July 2011. The job was done in a short time, people showed themselves as a very knowledgeable and eff ective team. The system works flawlessly, covering all our needs in electric power and saving us a lot of money, to say nothing about helping to make our environment cleaner, which we think is very important. Thank you, guys! Great job!
Solar guys only want to cut down trees
Is that only what we want to do? Seriously?
Like anything, solar has constraints on what is possible. Some properties just aren’t great for solar:
- When the roof surface is too small
- When the household doesn’t use enough electricity to make the investment worthwhile
- When the orientation is bad for efficiency (east/west roofs with high pitch)
- When there’s too much shade (tree or otherwise)
When customers express interest in going solar, we do our best to try and find a way to make a system work for them. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. EcoMen Solar is not interested in jamming a system down a customer’s throat using hard sales tactics or manipulation. That is EXACTLY the type of dynamic we fight AGAINST.
We can’t do much about small roof size, low energy usage, or poor orientation. But sometimes we CAN do something about tree shade. Tree trimming/removal is a common tactic for enhancing the economic viability of a solar project. And, in general we only entertain tree shade projects which require a maximum of 2-3 trees removed.
Solar companies steal from customers
I would love to know what caused the customer to think this way. The problem is that many unscrupulous installers and national vendors offered shoddy lease deals, and generally polluted public opinion on solar.
EcoMen Solar navigates in the wake caused by opportunistic and somewhat predatory large-scale solar companies. Its a constant uphill battle. I can tell you with all my heart and time in this industry that we’ve never stolen from a customer. I will happily CHALLENGE ANYONE WHO THINKS WE HAVE. Publicly if need be.
